Element and Thermostat Work
The most common electric fault. An electric tank running cold or running out mid-shower usually needs its element or thermostat replaced, matched to the unit and fitted in one visit.
When a hot water system quits, Plumbing Aspley works out what failed and quotes the fix before a single part comes off, covering tanks, elements, gas burners and valves across Aspley.
If we're late, $100 comes off your bill

Repairs usually cost a fraction of a new unit, and the trick is telling a simple valve fault from a finished cylinder, which is exactly what the diagnosis step is for.
Every call starts with the test, not the price of a new tank. Our plumbers work out what has actually stopped, quote the fix, and only talk replacement when the cylinder itself is gone.

Houses from the 1952 subdivision onward have been through unit after unit, and the tanks that went in around the early 2000s, many of them mounted outside on a brick wall, are the generation reaching the end of their run now.
The first snap of winter puts load on a tank that has been quietly corroding, so calls jump when the season turns and a unit that limped through autumn gives up in June.
Some fifties houses near Kirby Road still run galvanised steel supply, and scaled pipe chokes the flow a new unit needs, so we test the supply line before pointing the finger at the tank.
Here is the repair work our plumbers carry out on hot water systems across this side of Brisbane's north:

The most common electric fault. An electric tank running cold or running out mid-shower usually needs its element or thermostat replaced, matched to the unit and fitted in one visit.

Valves and fittings, not the cylinder. A leaking inlet, a corroded fitting or a tempering valve that has given up is stripped and rebuilt while the cylinder is sound, saving a good tank.

Burner faults, quoted first. A pilot that keeps going out, a yellow flame or a unit with no ignition is checked by our licensed gasfitters and quoted before anything comes apart.

Drips that waste hot water. A relief valve dribbling into the drain tray or a tempering valve sending heated water down the pipe wastes money daily, and swapping either puts delivery temperature and pressure back where they belong.
$0 call-out fees, available 24/7, and same-day where we can.

The same handful of faults turns up in most calls, and each one has a fix:
Test before replacing. Cold delivery points at a failed element, thermostat or gas control, and testing each in order finds the culprit without swapping good parts that still work fine.
The one fault we cannot fix. Water pooling under a tank means the cylinder itself has gone to rust, and no repair brings it back, so we say so plainly and talk a replacement instead.
The anode has done its job. Brown or orange water from the hot taps usually means a consumed sacrificial anode, and swapping it early can add years to the tank.
Usually a valve, not the mains. Weak hot flow with good cold points at a blocked tempering valve or a scaled supply line, and either is cleared or replaced during the same visit.

A quick call changes the outcome in three ways:
A dribbling relief valve or a spent anode is a minor fix this month and a rusted cylinder next winter, so the early call saves the replacement money.
With mostly single-level detached homes, a failed tank means nobody showers warm, and a fast repair puts normal life back sooner than any replacement quote.
A tempering valve stuck hot or a burner burning yellow is a safety issue before it is a comfort one, and both get treated as the priority calls they are.

We test the element, thermostat and each valve in turn, ruling out the small faults first, so you see exactly what failed and why before any part comes off the tank.

Card or EFTPOS on site once the job's finished, or ask about Fix now, pay later.

That same licence covers the gas side of the work, which matters when the fault turns out to be ignition rather than an element.

Plumbing Aspley covers Carseldine, Zillmere, Geebung, Chermside and Chermside West on the same regular run, so a failed tank one suburb over gets the same team and the same upfront price.
Age, mostly, because homes here have cycled through tank after tank, and the units fitted about the early 2000s are the cohort now rusting out, so old age is the usual story.
It can, because scaled galvanised steel runs behind the walls of a fifties house near Kirby Road that was never repiped, restricting flow and staining water, so we check the supply before blaming the unit.
Gas work falls under our licensed plumbing and gasfitting, QBCC No: 15024607, so a burner or pilot fault on the tank is repaired in the same visit as the diagnosis.
It can be, because a rusted cylinder can dump its whole load across the laundry floor, so shut the water at the tank and isolate the power or gas first.
We repair whatever is worth keeping, usually a valve, element or thermostat on a sound cylinder, and when the tank itself has rusted out we tell you straight and point to the replacement page.
Call (07) 3067 4272 and tell Plumbing Aspley what the unit is doing, and we will talk you through a few checks, settle the price before any work begins, and aim for same-day where we can.
